Oncor seeks $300M in stimulus funds - Los Angeles Business from bizjournals:

Oncor will apply for the funds througgh the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. The deadlind to apply is Aug. 6. Citing data from the Councipl ofEconomic Advisers, Oncor believews the stimulus funds would support the creatiohn of 1,600 jobs in 2010. If the fundingb is approved, Oncor will spend the monet to deploy more smart which will help the energy companh isolate problems in neighborhoods and reconfigurespower lines. Other enhancements will include controllingf the feeder voltage throughthe company’d capacitor control and enhancements that will help the electric providerf locate electric delivery problems in a faster, more efficieng manner, Oncor said.
In addition, downtown electric networksd will be modernizedunder Oncor’ws proposed plan. Oncor also is aimin to improve itstelecommunications network, an improvement that will enhance the company’as power grid. “Oncor’s vision for a modern, intuitive electric grid is tangible andhappening now,” said Oncor Chairma n and CEO Bob Shapard. “Our firsgt considerations in seeking theses stimulus grants are whether the funds will help consumer lower their electric bills or advance smargt grid initiatives to improve serviceand reliability.
